Perch Assist Mode recommends load changes to assist your athletes in getting back into your prescribed zone goal range. By measuring the athlete's output from the previous set, Assist Mode will determine whether or not an athlete should be adding or removing weight to ensure a quick, efficient, and productive training session.
In order to utilize Assist Mode, you must:
- Be on Perch app version 1.79.0 and above.
- Have more than 50lbs or 20kgs on the barbell.
- Have consecutive sets with the same goal range.
- Be using Zone Goals for a strength based movement.
- Have a best rep outside of the goal zone.
Using Assist Mode in Perch Plan
To turn Assist Mode on within a Plan or Workout, select the "Assist Mode" icon to enable Assist Mode for the exercise.
Note: ***Please keep in mind that this is on a per exercise basis, so it will not copy across weeks by default unless you're duplicating the day, week, or exercise. Exercise must be a strength exercise and have a zone goal prescribed.
Once your program is published and saved, you'll be able to use Assist Mode on the tablet with your athletes.

Using Assist Mode in Free Train Mode
To use Assist Mode in Free Train Mode, navigate to your Perch app settings and select Preferences. When you select the Assist Mode settings, there will be three options - Always On, Always Off, and Default to Plan Settings. To use Assist Mode in Free Train Mode, select the "Always On" option. This will enable Assist Mode for any strength based movement that you use to track velocity for.
Once enabled, you will see an icon on the weight editor button to indicate that the feature is on and being used.
Note: If you need to remove assist mode for an athlete, you can turn settings ON or OFF within the weight editor.
- Make sure the athlete is highlighted in blue
- Select the Assist Mode icon on the left hand side of the screen
- Select the option you'd like for that athlete.
Notification settings
If Assist Mode is ON, athletes will be automatically shown an "Alert" message when their weight has been changed. To turn OFF the alert, navigate to the Perch app settings --> Preferences --> "Alert athlete". By turning the alert off, you're not disabling Assist Mode as a whole - just the alert itself. If you choose not to use the alert, the system will simply change the load for the athlete, which will be highlighted by the weight icon highlighting in blue.
