Calendar scheduling allows you to clearly schedule your workouts within a program so the whole training block is laid out exactly as you intend it to run. Each session is tied to a day, so athletes always know what they're doing and when. If you'd like to learn more about creating workouts, programs, or templates, take a look at Perch PLAN.
Program Settings
Delivery method, start week, and default training days are all set in Program Settings. Open it by clicking the ⚙️ icon in the top right of the program editor.
Every program is delivered in one of two ways. As a Playlist, workouts are grouped into weeks and athletes work through them at their own pace. As a Calendar, every workout is scheduled for a fixed date, which suits group training on set days each week or a block built around a season, camp, or in the build-up to competitions.
Note: Delivery method is set per program. Every existing program stays as a Playlist until you switch it to Calendar in Program Settings.
Setting the Delivery Method
- Open Program Settings and, if the program details are collapsed, click Edit.
- Find the Delivery Method section and change the dropdown from Playlist to Calendar.
- Set the Start week. This is the week the program begins, and it defaults to the current week.
- Choose your Default training days by selecting days from Sun to Sat.
- Click Done. This is what lays the dates out across the calendar.
- Click Save in the top bar to save the program.
Note: Switching a program back to Playlist will remove all scheduled dates.
Default Training Days
Default training days tell Perch which days of the week you train on. As you add workouts to a week, they are placed onto these days automatically. The first workout of the week on the first selected day, the second on the next, and so on. In the first week, only days on or after your start date are used.
This is optional, and it's only a starting point. You can always move a workout to a different day afterwards.
Using the Calendar
Once a program is set to Calendar, a new Calendar View option appears in the View dropdown in the top right. The calendar shows your program a few weeks at a time, with each row of the grid making up one week of the program. Use the chevrons in the top right to move forward and back. Any week still waiting on dates is highlighted in amber, so it's easy to see what's left to do.
Adding and moving workouts
Add a workout - Click the day you want it on. Press Add Workout and a new workout is created on that date, ready to name and fill in. You can also add workouts on the week view, which will automatically appear on the calendar.
Move a workout - Drag it onto another day. The day you're hovering over turns green if the workout can go there, and red if it can't.
Schedule a workout that doesn't have a date yet - click Schedule on its amber week row. The row opens up to show the workouts still waiting for a date, drag each one onto the day you want it on, then click Done.
Editing a workout
Click on a workout to open the mini editor, which opens on the right-hand panel, here you can make changes without leaving the calendar.
Calendar on the Tablet App
Scheduling a program doesn't change how athletes lift, it changes what the tablet offers them. Their scheduled workout is waiting when they log in, and their calendar shows what's coming up as well as what they've already done.
My Scheduled
If an athlete has a workout scheduled for today, a Select Plan prompt appears when they log in. The My Scheduled section lists everything they're assigned to that day, and tapping on the workout starts it straight away. Any workouts other athletes on the tablet are already partway through are listed separately under Join Current Workout.
The Athlete Calendar
Once an athlete is logged in, an athlete can view their personal calendar by clicking on today's date within the 'Home' tab. Days they've completed a workout are marked with a green tick. Days with a workout scheduled but not yet done show a dashed circle with the number of workouts scheduled for that day.
Tap any day to see the sets recorded on it, use Today to jump back to the current day, and use the arrows to move between months.
