Exercise Variables let you define exactly which metrics are tracked for each exercise in a programme such as Reps, Weight, Distance, or RPE. Rather than showing the same fixed columns for every exercise, the variables let you tailor the data collected to the demands of each movement or workout.
Variables can be configured in two places: as defaults on the exercise itself (so every time it's added to a programme the correct variables are already there), and directly within the programme editor (to adjust variables for a specific workout without changing the exercise library).
Available Exercise Variables
Up to 4 variables can be added to any exercise. The following variable types are available:
| Variable | What it tracks | Unit options |
|---|---|---|
| Reps | Number of repetitions | Reps |
| Weight | Load - absolute weight or % of 1RM | kg, lbs, %1RM |
| Time | Duration of the set or effort | hh:mm:ss |
| Distance | Distance covered | cm, m, km, in, ft, yd, mi |
| Height | Jump or step height | cm, m, in, ft |
| RIR | Reps in Reserve | RIR |
| RPE | Rate of Perceived Exertion | RPE |
| Calories | Kilocalories burned | Cal |
| Heart Rate | Target or achieved heart rate | BPM |
| Watts | Untracked Power output | W |
Editing Default Exercise Variables
Default variables can be set by editing the exercise in the Exercise Library. When you add that exercise to a programme, it automatically loads with the correct columns.
- Open the Exercise Library and click the edit icon on the exercise.
- Scroll to the Default Variables section and check the variables you want. You can select up to 4.
- For Distance and Height, choose your preferred unit from the dropdown.
- Click Save.
Changing Variables in the Programme Editor
Variables can also be adjusted at the activity level directly within a workout in the programme editor. This lets you change which columns are shown for a specific occurrence of an exercise without affecting the exercise library or any other workout in the programme.
- Open the workout and locate the exercise you want to update.
- Click the + Add button in the column header to open the variable menu.
- Check or uncheck variables to add or remove them. Removing a variable will clear any data entered for it in this workout.
- For Distance and Height, select your preferred unit from the dropdown.
- To apply the same variables to every occurrence of this exercise across the programme, see Bulk Applying Variables below.
Bulk Applying Variables Across a Programme
If you have updated the variables on one exercise and want to apply the same configuration to every other occurrence of that exercise across the programme, you can use the Apply to All option.
- Open the variable column menu using the + Add button in the set table header.
- At the bottom of the menu, click Apply to all [exercise name].
- A confirmation dialog will appear showing which variables will be applied and how many exercises across the programme will be updated.
- Click Apply to All to confirm.
