Tracks allow coaches to create unique workout variations within a single program tailored by position, group, or individual athlete. Instead of building separate programs for different groups, you can use Multi Track to manage all variations in one place. Each track can be assigned to specific athletes, and each can have its own customised workout or simply follow the Default Track. If you'd like to learn more about creating workouts, programs, or templates, take a look at Perch PLAN.
Note: Multi Track is available on Core+ and Pro plans. To upgrade, reach out to your Perch representative.
Program Settings
All track management - enabling multi track, assigning athletes, and adding tracks - is done in Program Settings. Open it by clicking the ⚙️ icon in the top right of the program editor.
Single Track vs Multi Track
Every program starts as a single track - one workout that all assigned athletes follow. It's simple and works well when your whole group is doing the same thing.
Multi track lets you create different versions of the same workout within a single program. Each track can have its own exercises, loads, or structure, while still living under one program.
When to use single track
- All athletes are following the same workout with no variations needed.
- You want to keep things simple and easy to manage.
When to use multi track
- Different positions or groups need different exercises or loads (e.g. forwards vs backs, or goalkeepers vs outfield players).
- You have athletes on modified programs, such as rehab or return-to-play.
- You want to manage all variations in one place rather than creating separate programs.
Enabling Multi Track
By default, all programs are single track. In Program Settings, change the Program Type dropdown to Multi Track. The Program Assignment section will appear below.
Program Assignment
The Program Assignment section shows all tracks in your program. Each track has its own row where you can select which teams, positions, or individual athletes belong to it.
- The Default Track is always present. Athletes not assigned to any other track will see this workout.
- Use the team dropdown and position dropdown to assign by team and position, or click the +person icon to assign individual athletes.
- Track names update automatically based on your assignments. If you assign a team, position, or individual athlete to a track, the name will update to reflect it. For example, assigning Team: Hockey and Position: Goalkeeper will generate the track name "Hockey - Goalkeeper".
Adding a Track
- Scroll to the bottom of the Program Assignment section and click +Add Track. A new track row will appear with empty assignment fields and a default name.
- Click the coloured circle next to the track name to open the colour picker and choose a colour.
- Click the name field to give the track a name.
- Use the ⋮ menu on any track row to delete it.
- Click Done to save and close Program Settings.
Editor Views
Week View
In Week View, you view one track at a time. Use the Track dropdown in the top right to switch between tracks. The dropdown lists all tracks in the program select whichever track you want to view or edit.
If a track has not been customised, the banner "Athlete shown default track" appears across the workout area. This means athletes on this track are currently seeing the Default Track workout. Click +Modify to create a custom version of the workout for that track. This can include changes in exercise, volume, intensity etc.
Track View
The Track View shows all tracks side by side as columns for a single day, so you can compare and edit workouts across tracks at the same time. Switch to it using the View dropdown in the top right.
Each column shows the track name and the athletes or teams assigned to it. Tracks that have not been customised display the message "Athlete shown default track" meaning those athletes will see the Default Track workout.
Load Progression
The Load Progression view shows workouts across weeks for the selected track. Use the Track dropdown to switch between tracks in this view, the same as in Week View.
Tracks on the Tablet App
Starting a Workout
On the tablet app, athletes access their assigned track from the Select a Workout page. Any workout that belongs to a multi track program is indicated by the track icon next to the Start button.
- Assigned athletes are automatically shown their assigned track when they tap Start.
- Unassigned athletes are prompted to select a track before the workout begins.
- Tapping the track icon opens the Select Track menu. Assigned athletes will see a Recommended badge next to their track. Select any track to start that version of the workout.
Track Priority
If an athlete belongs to multiple track assignments in the same program, the following hierarchy determines which track is automatically selected:
1. Individual athlete assignment - highest priority
2. Position assignment
3. Team assignment - lowest priority
Changing Track Mid-Workout
Athletes can switch tracks during an active workout by tapping Workout Overview (top left), then the ⋮ menu (top right), then selecting Change Track.
If you want to make on-the-fly changes within a track, you can still perform individual exercise switches without changing track entirely. See Switching Exercises
